The Continent in Miniature |
| Called "The Continent in Miniature" for its varied climate-in the south, the arid dunes with the soft beaches of Maspalomas and the Playa del Inglés, the alpine altitudes of the central mountains, and the steep cliffs of the north-Gran Canarias is 83 km from Fuerteventura to the East and 62 km from Tenerife to the West. It is 120 km away from the African continent, and 1250 km from Cadíz. The island occupies 1532 square kilometres, has 236 km at the perimeter, in an almost completely round shape with a diameter of approximately 50 km. Its 8500 cubic km, and it is located at 27º 43' - 28º 11' North y 15º 21' - 15º 48' West. Its maximum altitude is El Pico de Las Nieves, at 1949 km. |
